If you’re interested in my bio I put that on the bottom. It’s not of much interest to me, after all those “line items” are more about where I’ve been and not where I’m going. That I’ve been blessed throughout life is not something I take lightly; I thank God for those blessings every day. What I prefer to share with you (before you get bored and click away) are a few of my favorite quotes and more importantly favorite Bible verses.
* A gal pal of mine noted “God never gives you more then you can handle. I just wish He didn’t have so much confidence in me” …to which I say – AMEN!
One of the quotes I use often in my motivational speaking programs is from Erma Bombeck, who said “When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say ‘I used everything you gave me.’ “ Another big AMEN!
When you read the following quote think about the author. It will give you a wonderful perspective on your own blessings. “ Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Helen Keller
Another favorite quote by Melody Beattie…”We can stop waiting for others to give us what we need and take responsibility for ourselves. When we do, the gates to freedom will swing wide. Walk through. ”
I think this quote by Susan Jeffers should be engraved on a shirt for every new lady camper we encounter… “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”
And this one by Julia Soul is another good one for women who are afraid to step outside their comfort zone…”If you are never scared or embarrassed or hurt it means you never take chances.”
For those of you who know me personally you are aware that I believe that our Babes with Bullets (TM) camps and the experiences offered to women across the country are a gift from God. That I would be mentored and nurtured by world and national handgun champions like Lisa Munson and Kay Miculek, then have the opportunity to write a book (Babes with Bullets) about shooting sports, which played a part in our developing our camps across the country; well in my mind it all has God’s hand at the steering wheel, not mine. So with that said I hope you enjoy the Bible verses that I enjoy…
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind”…This particular verse is one I use on our Babes with Bullets (TM) banners as it sums up how I feel about introducing women to something as empowering as learning about shooting sports.
Psalm 32:8 “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you” …this Psalm speaks to me as I gave my life to Christ many years ago though I keep taking it back at certain times thinking I can run it faster or better. Think of a gerbil doing the wheel deal and you have a visual of how successful my running my life without God’s help turns out. Even though I go hard, and I go fast, I still pray and say “God, if this is your will, then I will.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.” AMEN!
Deb’s Bio at a Glance…Deb Ferns has spent over two decades as a meeting planner, producing events for the Blue Angels, along with companies such as Motorola and Caterpillar. She is married (to a very tolerant guy named Gary), they have two daughters, and have lived in Tucson for over 20 years. Deb considers her “home” state as Michigan, living there for the first 30 years and she still has a midwest “twang.” Deb has a Bachelor of Art in Business Communications and an MBA, with a major in marketing. She shot a gun for the first time on her 45th birthday and had what she called a ‘Mid-Life Renewal!’ After participating for a few years in a variety of handgun matches Deb attended a “ladies only” shooting camp in Shreveport in 2004, put on by world and national handgun champions Kay Miculek and Lisa Munson.
Deb came home from the 2004 camp ON FIRE with a plan to somehow introduce other women to what firearms training could offer each of them. So in short order here is how she spent the last five years:
* Wrote a book, Babes with Bullets ™ …Women Having Fun With Guns.
* With Deb as the camp organizer and Kay Miculek as head instructor, along with Lisa Munson as senior instructor, Babes with Bullets ™ ladies action shooting camps, started across the US in 2005. Now several years later they have trained over 1,000 + women with each camp selling out months in advance.
* In November 2006 a long time friend of the Ferns, Marilyn Vogel from Pro Videos 4 U, volunteers her camera and editing skills to the “Babes” project. She and Deb start to capture footage from camps, working on webisodes that are part of an on-going effort to expose more women, along with mainstream media, to the “magic” that takes place at each camp.
* Starting in 2010 “Babes with Bullets ™ Part 2…The Rifle” is birthed.
And while this may seem like a full schedule Deb & her husband continue to participate in a variety of shooting sports, her favorite being 3-gun competitions utilizing a rifle, pistol and shotgun. And she gets to share another of her passions, which is Hatha yoga, as she teaches yoga at the range for each of the Babes with Bullets ™ camps. Deb is also active with Mastiff Rescue and enjoys sharing her home with these gentle giants.
